Always Sick

Into the school
Down the dirty halls
Among the diseases and their vessels
Upon contact it’s too late
In my veins they congregate
Inside my body warfare rages
Regardless of my prescription pages
Despite my efforts to defend
Towards defeat my forces spin
Rather than let the invaders split
I grab a pill and swallow it!

  1. Rhys, when I first read this poem I thought it was a little intense. I was not sure you should turn it into your English class. I was also sad that you felt so distraught over the sick weekends. Of course having conjunctivitis twice is not fun! It was so hard for you to be sick all those first weekends of school but on the bright side, you got so much homework done. I’m relieved you had a healthy weekend and I hope the rain did not get you down too much. Staying inside with a good book can be a good thing. I know you are stronger now and able to defend yourself from all those evil germs at school. Hate to say this, but I have to, wash your hands as much as you can! There, got the mom stuff in. Love the graphic. Keep battling those nasty bugs! Mom

  2. Wow…if you write this well when sick, I’d hate to see your output when healthy.
I thought the imagery and cadence was wonderful.
